Visit counts, easier new user experience, and no more usernames

Hey all,

We just rolled out a few new features this morning that we hope you'll enjoy.

  1. Site and post visits counts are now visible on your site and individual post pages. You can only see your own site's site count, but everyone can see your post count. Go check out your site to see it now.
  2. The new user experience is better than ever now. Without ever signing up for an account, you can now edit the posts you've put online. We've also made it super braindead simple to create an account once you're already using the service by email -- just give us a password and choose a site name and you're done.
  3. Usernames are so passe. We decided to make signup and everyday login that much easier. You don't have to worry about picking a unique username anymore, let alone remembering what you used for this site... Instead of identifying yourself by username, you get an autogenerated nickname that can get changed later. Or if you want, use your real name. Or, better yet, use both. You can now edit all these things in your Edit Profile page. Also, don't forget you don't need to log in with a username anymore -- just use any of your confirmed email addresses and it will just work.

This is on top of a whole ton of cleanup work we've done throughout the site. We moved the feedback link to the bottom right corner of the footer, so... you know where to reach us! Enjoy.

Wondering about time zone wrt posting. I'm in Eastern US zone but when I posted at 12:05am my time, the post shows the previous day's date. Will I be able to designate my zone? Thanks.

Absolutely. We're planning on creating a time zone preference so you can set what shows up on the site. Thanks for using posterous!

there is a nuisance with the autogenerated blog name. You generate it from the sender of the post and a random (I think) string, but you paste them with an underscore "_". This means that picky proxies - like the one I have to use while staying at work - refuse to connect to the blog, since underscore is not allowed in DNS. (I was wondering if converting the given address to IDN could do the trick, but I am too lazy to try it).
Could you consider to change the joining character to "-"?
