Posterous Tip: Turn Posterous tags into autoposted Twitter #hashtags

We all know that Posterous is the easiest way to share photos and videos with your friends on Twitter. Now, we've just added a new feature that turns tags on Posterous into #hashtags when you autopost to Twitter or any other microblog.

For instance:

Subject: It really does smell like teen spirit ((tag: grunge, nirvana))

becomes:

To enable this feature, just edit the "Advanced Settings" of your Twitter autopost site by visiting the autopost page and add "{{hash_tags}}" to your custom footer:

Posterous launches super easy Twitter commenting and 2-click Twitter login

Isn't it about time you set up Posterous to autopost to Twitter? Now your readers can leave comments for you and tweet back through Twitter using our new commenting system. It's easier than ever for people to get involved and have a conversation on your blog.

Posterous now also fully supports Twitter's oAuth API for both Posterous users setting up autopost AND your readers who might want to tweet back right from your Posterous blog. For users who are already logged into Twitter, it's a trivial 2 clicks to get connected with Twitter. Click Allow and you're all set.

For users who were using the old way (by giving us your twitter login) -- things will still work just fine and you don't have to lift a finger. But if you'd like, you can delete your old Twitter autopost account at http://posterous.com/autopost and create a new one again. If you happen to change your Twitter password, you'll want to do this too.

In addition to Twitter, Facebook users can easily comment and share back using Facebook Connect. Twitter/Facebook commenters can also now enter their email address to sign up for comment updates.

As always, email us at help@posterous.com if you're having problems getting things working, and we'll get right back to you ASAP. Thanks for using posterous!

Posterous Facebook App revamped! Update your Facebook status, control your photos and invite your friends.

Status updates
We've added the ability to choose between updating your minifeed (which is preferable if you like to expand them to short stories or already have the Twitter app installed) or changing your facebook status (which updates your status with an is.gd short link to your new posterous post.)

Facebook Photo posting options
You can now also control how many photos in a post it takes to create a new album in your Facebook Photos. If you send fewer than that number (we default to 5), we just drop it into the Posterous Photos album, but if you post more than that, you'll get an album with the same name as the post for easy organization.

You can see the new settings on facebook right now by clicking here and selecting "Photo and Blog Autopost Options." If you haven't setup autopost to Facebook yet, this is a great time to start.

Invite your friends
Finally, if you're already autoposting to Facebook, we just added a way for you to invite your Facebook friends to read your posterous and get one of their own. Invite your friends now.

New on Posterous - Autopost to Facebook

Posterous has just launched dead simple posting of photos, video, music, and files of all kinds to Facebook through our Posterous Facebook app.

  1. We'll update your minifeed with a notification. If click "Edit" in Facebook, you can even expand the notification to the full contents of the post. So if you post an mp3 and expand it, you'll get an mp3 player right there in your profile for your friends to listen to, all without ever leaving Facebook.
  2. If you'd like, we can also upload your photos to your Facebook Photo Albums (and automatically create a new album if you post more than 10 photos).
  3. Finally, if you add a Posterous Tab to your profile, you can let your friends view your posterous page directly from your Facebook profile.

All of the usual autopost options apply -- you can still email facebook@posterous.com OR manually post to Facebook through the "Post to elsewhere" button on the sidebar of your post.

So what are you waiting for? Set up autopost to facebook now.

New: More control over autopost

We've been getting a ton of requests for this, so here you go. You can now autopost your Posterous posts to other sites right from the post page itself. Simply click the "Post to elsewhere" button on your post's page, and then click where you want the post sent.

This enables you to post via posterous@posterous.com, so it's not automatically autoposted, check the post online, edit it, get it just right, and then autopost it when you are ready. This also means if you have multiple blogs setup with Posterous, you can choose to post to just one of those.

Finally, when you create a new post on the website itself, there's an option under "More options" that lets you disable autopost for that post.

Autopost to everywhere, even your existing blogs

We're celebrating our 1 month launch birthday by announcing a big new feature. Posterous now makes posting to even your existing blogs easier.

We're proud to announce support for our first wave of blogging platforms: Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad, Movable Type, Livejournal, tumblr, and Xanga. If you use any of these sites -- well, what are you waiting for? Set up autopost now.

Are you sick of having to log into separate sites and post/upload separately each time? Attach your stuff to one email and you're done.

At Posterous, we're totally driven to create things the right way -- the way we ourselves would want the best blogging platform in the world to work. We host your full images and files, no matter what. We don't nickel and dime you on space. We auto-resize things intelligently. And that means we work with all the rest of your blogs and social media in a way that just plain works.

Since every blog is different, we want to make sure we work with yours. If something doesn't look right, email us at help@posterous.com and we'll work with you to fix things fast.

New on Posterous: Autopost to Flickr and Twitter

You know what I hate? Having to upload photos or post things to multiple places. Starting now, you won't have to anymore. Posterous now supports automatically posting updates about your new posts to twitter, AND photo attachments to flickr. Send as many flickr photos as you like in one email attachment, we'll just drop them right into your photostream. Don't worry about mini-fying your posterous URL's anymore, we take care of that for you and just post with the first 130 characters of your subject line.

This is just the first in a series of push-your-stuff-everywhere features that we've got in store for you in the weeks ahead. We think email is at once so simple and so powerful that you should be able to use posterous to post everywhere.

Want to get started? Click "Autopost to Elsewhere" in the right sidebar on your Manage page. Thanks for using posterous.
