Rescue your photos from TwitPic
A picture is worth 1,000 words. Or 3 tweets, 2 blog posts and 4 status updates. Which is why it's important to keep your photos in a place that truly belongs to you.
We've had numerous users ask us to help them find a new home for their photos, and today we are announcing new tools to help move your photos from TwitPic to Posterous.
With Posterous, not only can you customize the look and feel of your site, you can also manage all your comments in one place. And as much as we love Twitter, sometimes you need more than 140 characters to add context to your photos. Finally, you can use Posterous in exactly the same way you use TwitPic - from the web or from your favorite Twitter client.
Moving your TwitPic photos to Posterous is simple. Just go to posterous.com/switch/twitpic and enter in your TwitPic profile url and email address. There will be a quick authorization step to make sure that these are your photos.
We'll take it from there. You don't even need to set up an account. We'll send you an email when we're done copying your photos. And don't worry, your TwitPic photos will still be there. Not convinced? Check out what Tony Hawk, Rainn Wilson, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alyssa Milano are doing with their pics on Posterous. Or get the straight scoop at switchto.posterous.com from users like Brad who already switched from TwitPic to Posterous.
"With Posterous, my pictures feel like they are on my own personal site rather than a media warehouse. When one of my friends clicks on my pictures, I know they are getting a great experience on Posterous.
I switched and you should too."
Update: It appears that TwitPic has blocked our servers from accessing their site. We're queuing up all the blocked import requests so you won't have to resubmit them and have contacted TwitPic to remove the block. As our import tool does not impact TwitPic images in any way, we are pretty surprised that TwitPic chose this tactic. We believe everyone should be able to choose where to host their images and are hoping that this gets resolved quickly. Thanks a lot for your patience and stay tuned for more updates.
