The Official Posterous Posterous

This is where we post about new features on posterous. You can get a blog just like this by emailing post@posterous.com.

Posterous launches dead simple group sites

You can now create up to three Posterous sites under a single account. Simply go to your main account page and click "Create a new Posterous."

To post to a particular site, just email post@sitename.posterous.com and it will go to the right place. Create a personal site for yourself, a family site for all your relatives, and a third site for your soccer team.

Each site can now have multiple contributers. You can add your friends or family’s email addresses to any Posterous site you control, and they can then email stuff in too. All they have to do is email post@sitename.posterous.com. They don't even need to register.

See the announcement on TechCrunch.

Check out this group blog Garry made so all his friends can share funny stuff we've found online (using our brand new group blogging feature).

awesome thing to come up with.. but I already 2 blogs with 2 credentials.. can I now merge them.. or bring them together under one user

Sachin Agarwal said...
Hi Aditya. We'll be adding a way to merge accounts soon. For now, just add your email addresses from one account to be contributors to the other account and you'll be good to go until then. Thanks!

Awesome! But I already have three sites, how do I manage them all under one account?
Dec 22, 2008
Sachin Agarwal said...
Aulia: For now just add yourself as a contributer to all your sites. We'll add a true "merge" option in the future. Thanks.

I'm waay more excited to hear the funding news. Posterous seems to be getting the high-profile attention it very much deserves! Honestly, if I had any money, I'd happily put it into Posterous - this IS going to become bloody big.

Congratulations rockstars!

Guys, so far, so good. I just happened to check back with Posterous now (I looked at it quite a while ago) and I love what you've done. Group blogging, auto posting, customizing your auto posts. All of these are excellent features and I see great things coming in the future. Keep up the good work.

Nice updates, guys. I like the new look of the edit page, which as you know is one of my most used features!
Dec 23, 2008
I am not interested in merging Posterouses, but I would like to *split* mine, i.e. move (rather than copy and paste) some articles to a different Posterous. Do you have this feature in your todo list?

Hi Maurizio,
If you click "edit" on a post, then "Advanced", you can move posts to other posterous blogs.

Hi Garry,
I tried editing a post, but I found just "More post editing options ยป". From the page "Manage", there is a button "Edit", but the only other option is "delete". Where should I look for the label "advanced"?

Maurizio -- I see your account only has one blog right now. If you have another one not already linked, you'll need to merge it with your current account, which is coming soon. Once you merge the accounts, it will show a dropdown selector under "More post options" on the edit page.

Garry: thanks, now it's all clear!

Is there any way to associate different external accounts (Twitter, Blogger, etc.) with each site on my Posterous account?
Dec 23, 2008
Garry Tan said...
No settings, but you can already control this right now by using service-specific email address for your posts. E.g. if you have sitea and siteb, then email flickr@sitea.posterous.com, and twitter+facebook@siteb.posterous.com to send to those services with those sites.
Dec 24, 2008

I know you can already do that, but what I want to do is have sitea post to twittera and bloggera and siteb post to twitterb and bloggerb. Is that possible?

Maybe what I want to do would be better suited to separate Posterous accounts instead, but I'd want to post to both accounts/sites from the same email addresses, and I'm not sure that's possible is it?

Garry and Sachin - you are both geniuses. Posterous is the first great K.I.S.S. implementation I have seen in a long time. Looking forward to see how this site take off.

Matt: right now to do what you want (autopost to very specific sites) you would want to post it without autopost (posterous@) and then manually autopost it where you want on the right sidebar of the post page.

Matt, you could create 2 accounts with separate autopost settings. But you are right that each account would need to have different email addresses.

We have thought about being able to map posterous sites to external sites so maybe we'll work on something there.

Is there any way to create different profiles for each of my posterous blogs? Right now it just shows my face! haha

I've got www.evangetserious.com and stormtrackr.com, and I don't need that second one to be branded for me personally.

If not, is there a way I can move that stormtrackr one to a different account completely?

Sachin Agarwal said...
@evan. we'll be adding site specific profiles soon so you'll be able to define an image and other sidebar info per site you own

When someone contributes -- does that auto post to external sites like twitter? Can a contributor send twitter@site.posterous.com?
May 27, 2009
Sachin Agarwal said...
when someone contributes, they can email twitter@site.posterous.com. It will go to site.posterous.com (whether they own it or they are a contributor to it). AND it will go to the twitter sites *on their account*
