Posterous Introduces Seamless Retweeting

We've just introduced a new retweet button that makes it super easy to share interesting stuff with your Twitter followers without ever leaving Posterous.

To disable or enable retweeting, visit your manage page at http://posterous.com/manage and click the "Settings Tab". Under the "Look and Feel" section, click "More Theme Options" and check "Enable Retweet Button."

You can also add the retweet button and customize its look on your custom theme. Theme hackers can consult the retweet documentation for our theming engine here.

Big thanks to Backtype for supplying all of the realtime retweet counts.

Great feature; however, is it gradually being rolled out as I cannot find the setting to turn it on?

This is great! I am feverishly waiting for the iPhone optimized site too, like in Wordpress. Then my life is complete :)

I tried it out on one of my own blog entries, and I can happily say that it works! I love having retweet ability in my blog. I had to add it manually to my Blogger templates, so I'm glad it's built into Posterous now. Thanks!

If you're using a custom theme, you'll need to add the example code to your custom theme from this page: http://posterous.com/theming/reference#block_Retweet

Excellent option again! was a bit difficult to find out how to do so, since I have a custom theme, but thanks to Garry's reply I was quickly able to add it to most of my posterous sites.

I have the custom code added, but several of my readers claim to have used the button (successfully?) but the tweet does not appear in Twitter? Anyone else having issues getting the tweets to work?

Chris Myles said...
FYI you need to have twitter auto-post enabled to use this feature. I currently use friendfeed and didn't have it enabled which meant a normal reader (not logged in) couldn't retweet my posts. You also need to use another path to twitter if you have multiple accounts (one for each blog) because of the global auto-posting restriction.

If twitter auto-post is NOT enabled why don't you leave off the RT @blogowner portion? Check out http://mylescrew.posterous.com .. I re-broke it!!

BTW the retweet count works fine.. in either case.

You don't need to have twitter auto-post enabled, it was just a corner case bug that has *already* been fixed.

Thanks for the awesome support posterous

Marc, Blaise -- if you're not seeing it, make sure a) you have Twitter added to your Autopost list, and b), if you're using a custom theme, add this Retweet block to wherever you want: http://posterous.com/theming/reference#block_Retweet

Just discovered this. One thing: When you've set up a Twitter account, there will always be at least one mention which doesn't say much at this moment :-)

I got excited when I saw I had a mention on Twitter, but it was just me.

Anyway, is anyone else having problems with stuff not appearing on Posterous for at least 12+ hrs after you've sent it? (It's not a problem with my email because I'm not having issues with anyone else receiving from me.) Kind of sucks when you want to send time-sensitive images to Twitter/Flickr and it doesn't show up for almost a day.

Julie -- sorry you had problems. Fire us a note at help@posterous.com and we can try to figure out why that happened. Its definitely atypical.

Jamie, feel free to email us at help@posterous.com too

When doing a retweet, it seems to ask each time if I want to Allow it. Is that supposed to happen?

In addition: I don't seem to have the "more theme options" checkbox.

HI Carola and other friends who may be using custom themes: Please add this code to your custom theme, then enable it under "Customize" in the theme editor.

Thanks Garry. I did'nt find the enable function, but I did'nt have to, it works just fine just copying the code to the theme.
