The Official Posterous Posterous

This is where we post about new features on posterous. You can get a blog just like this by emailing post@posterous.com.

Posterous image posting is now available in the top twitter clients!

We're proud to announce broad support of the Posterous API for image posting through the most awesome twitter clients out there. In addition to posting, many of these clients have added inline viewing of Posterous photos and media, and even voice upload (Pichirp) via iPhone!

To enable Posterous as your image host, you'll need to go into the settings for the twitter client and set Posterous as your image posting service.

Is your favorite client not here?
Posterous now supports a rich API that is also 100% compatible with TwitPic. We've added extensions that let you post music, video and files of any kind (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) so you can do even more with Posterous than any other hosting service / blog platform. Send feedback to your favorite clients telling them about our API, and let us know too.

Good stuff. I wish to see TweetDeck in that list. I'm a little surprised they haven't integrated Posterous yet, considering they use it for their official blog. Here's hoping...

any chance we'll see posterous support in any of the blackberry apps? socialscope, ubertwitter, twitterberry, etc?

@mike p vPost http://vpost.vayyoo.com is a great way to email multiple photos and video from your bb, and then let us update your twitter through autopost

(not that same thing, i know, but a pretty good solution)

Great news. One missing Twitter client, Nambu for Mac, I am afraid may never see support, since Nambu integrates with their own services (tr.im, pic.im, etc). May be time to move to Tweetie...

I made a quick pictorial of how to setup iPhone/Twittirific for Posterous use. Everyone probably knew how to do it already, but it took me a min. to figure so I thought I'd share.

You have to get on Tweetie for the iPhone version. That is the BIGTIME main one.

I installed Power Twitter for Firefox, and the first thing I noticed when I went to my Twitter page is that all the links posted by people I'm following all showed up as descriptive links. Except, of course, links to Posterous. Those were non-clickable text descriptions.

Uninstalled it already.

I'm the developer of Pichirp & Pichirp Pro and want to clarify one minor point: voice upload is currently in review and will be featured in v1.5 expected out this weekend.

Pichirp Pro currently has the v1.3 feature set and doesn't support Posterous yet, but Pichirp (free version) is v1.4 and does support photo upload for Posterous.

With v1.5 both the paid and free version will have support for Posterous!

I'm a big fan of Posterous and look forward to further integrating with it in the future

@Tane I just contacted Twidroid now so hopefully they will decide to add support for us. You should email them also and encourage them :)

if I post my image this way, will it be published to my existing Posterous stream?
May 27, 2009

yes, if you have autopost setup on Posterous, using one of these twitter clients will post to your existing posterous site

thx Sachin, what if I have 2 streams: can I select which one to post too?
May 27, 2009
Sachin Agarwal said...
not currently. It always goes to your default Posterous site. Later we'll offer a way for the twitter clients to show you a list of your sites and choose one, but that will be up to them to actually implement

I think posterous is taking a great approach to blogging and I like this new feature. I use Twitteriffic and noticed Posterous as an option in the settings. I've already tried my first photo post via twitterific but I notice the text I type in my tweet doesn't get passed on to my posterous blog, only the photo. What's up with this. Great work guys but is this an oversight that can be fixed soon. Would seal the deal for me. Been looking for a simple blog to integrate easily with my twitter.

More kudos for SimplyTweet here! Hwee has implemented a nice feature where the hash tags at the end of a tweet are converted to Posterous tags! You can also tweet longer than 140 characters to posterous and it trunicates the tweet with a link to posterous. Two great services that solved all my issues!
Jun 05, 2009
Hwee-Boon Yar said...
Actually, it converts all the hashtags to Posterous tags, but it removes hashtags at the end of the tweet when posting as the title since it's common for people to append hashtags for the purpose of tagging.

And tag support is only in the beta, so don't go looking for it yet.

"Hwee-Boon". Yes that's the first name :)

@Madison Kinnard, I also have an existing Posterous blog. When I used Tweetie, it apparently authed to Posterous via the email address that I have in my Twitter settings because the photo *did* get posted to my existing default Posterous blog. Have you double-checked your email setting in your Twitter account to ensure it matches what you post to Posterous with?

@Sachin - is the behavior I'm seeing expected? Not sure why autopost would be required in this scenario.

@Jeff Henshaw, I got it! Thanks!

@Madison Kinnard - glad you're up and running. This is a cool feature. And @Sachin, I thought about it for a minute and realized that autopost is what is aware of your twitter account, so I get it now. :-)

This is a really cool feature. I'm nagging Tweetie to add support to their next iPhone client.

Jun 06, 2009
Sachin Agarwal said...
Where a twitter client posts doesn't have anything to do with which email address is on your Posterous or Twitter.

If the twitter username you use in the twitter client matches a twitter username in autopost, the photo goes to that posterous site.

Would be nice if the title of the post would be automatically set from the tweet containing the image... Avoids untitled posts...
Jul 11, 2009
Sachin Agarwal said...
Mike, we already support that on our end, but it's up to the Twitter client to send the tweet to us. I know simplytweet for iPhone supports this. If your favorite Twitter client doesn't, email them :)

@gillardg I have pockettwit but have never programmed in C# and has been years since I did any work in VB. I guess I will have to wait around until someone great ports or makes a WinMo client that posts to posterous. Thanks for the reply however, and the info I will look the PT open source pages over.
