New: Password protect your posterous site

You can now have private sites on Posterous. It's as easy as can be: just go to the "settings" section of your site and enter a password. When someone visits your site, they will need to enter this password before they can see it or subscribe.

This is the perfect way to create a private group site for your family.

More details about how private sites work can be found here.

Are you using RSS passwords? I'm only curious because lesser readers like GReader do not support this...

@Tom. We create an obscure url for your RSS feed which can only be found if you have the password to the site.

Tom - it's not user-friendly, but Brad posted a workaround for Google Reader here: http://conden.se/blog/2008/07/21/google-reader-http-basic-authentication-hack-with-yahoo-pipes/

Sachin: Are you saying I can't guess random hashes?! You underestimate me...

Jeff: Very cool! I knew Brad was good for something other than a laugh at his expense.

This is a great feature!

One thing I would love to see is comment moderation. As it stands today, I have no choice but to turn comments off :(

Please keep up the good work!

Great progress guys! A friend from college just asked me about your product. He is a professor/writer at Duke who heard about your product from a guy at Harvard who reads his emails. Great to see that type of word of mouth happening! His only request, be able to brand the page as his own. Looking forward to seeing more from you in 2009.

Wouldn't it be fine, if I could protect single posts with a password?
