New feature: Kills comment spam dead

We just got our first batch of comment spam to users who have decided to allow public comments. Our response: DIE, SPAMMERS!

We've plugged into an industry-leading comment-spam fighting platform (we're not telling who) that will just bounce the spammers on their asses. Thanks to posterous user Bwana for reporting the issue earlier this afternoon. We're all about fast response.

Thanks for using posterous.

Brilliant.

Speaking of new features... how far away will it be to be able to park your own domain name over your Posterous blog...?

I would also like to see the ability to add links within the editor.

Currently I am editing my posts (after emailing them) over on Wordpress... then cutting and pasting them here.

So... safe to add commenting for public users?

I'd disabled that because I assumed this would be a problem.

Akismet uses a centralised blacklist, so that's a bit tough on unfortunate false positives.
Spam Karma 2 on the other hand is open sourced now, so that might permit a localised implementation of spam defence without handing control of comment blocking over to a third party.

Thank you Posterous! Spam is one of the main reasons I came looking for another blog platform! Little did I know what else Posterous would provide!
