Tumblr is a pretty cool service.  They offer easy set up, loads of funky themes and super-simple reblogging. 

But blogging on Tumblr is sort of like being in high school.  But you know deep-down that you can't be in high school forever.  Eventually, you have to move on.

It's the same with blogging.  After you get your feet wet, you need comments and the ability to moderate them.*  You need to add different media types to each post.  Your sharing needs are more complex, and your site needs to grow with you. 

Face it.  You need to leave Tumblr behind and graduate to Posterous.

Do you have a hard time defining your self expression into "post types"?  Is 5 minutes of video per week just not enough to share your baby videos with your family?  Sharing on Twitter and Facebook is great. But what about your number one reader, your mom? Wouldn't it be great if she could get an email whenever you posted?

With Posterous there are no limits to your self expression.  You can use Posterous to run your private family email list, proudly promote your business or set up a multi-user site where everyone contributes posts via email without having to set up an account.   If you can imagine it, you can do it on Posterous.

Moving your Tumblr blog to Posterous is simple.  Just go to posterous.com/switch/tumblr and enter in the url of your Tumblr blog and your email address.

Update 1:  Several folks have pointed out that Tumblr allows multiple people to contribute to a site.  On Posterous, your group members don't need to have an account to post to your group site whereas Tumblr requires them to sign up first.   We think our approach is a much more effective way to build a thriving group site, but we've removed this point from the above chart.

Update 2: Tumblr is having some connectivity issues today which is impacting the speed in which we can bring Tumblr blogs over to Posterous.  If you are still waiting for your results, hang in there - we have not lost your request.
