Gmail now supports inline images. Place images anywhere in your post

Gmail just added support for inline images, so you can place photos anywhere in the text of your post. You need to first enable this in your GMail settings.

Once enabled, you'll get a new image icon in the compose window which will let you insert an image anywhere.

More info can be found on the Official Gmail Blog.

This is great! I can't wait until they build in a feature that allows you to task people and maybe one for time management.

(I know, some people are just never happy :P)

Gotta say, I'm not all that impressed - with gMail, not Posterous. What I want from gMail is to be able to paste an image inline from the clip board - you know, ctrl-v.

Oh well...

@Humpton Yeah I use copy/paste for rich media constantly when composing email. Also, i love being able to drag and drop from the finder right into a mail message, right where i want it to go....

but that's why I'm a Mail.app user and won't be switching to webmail anytime soon :)

Is it just me, or did anyone else notice that this could sort of be done previously? I have been able to copy an image and paste it into the body of Gmail - but only if the image was already on the web. Might depend on the browser, but still...

yeah, i thought it was a big deal too for posterous when i read about it on lifehacker.. adding images to posts seemed to be one of the few tedious parts of posting... much simpler now.

If you use Firefox you should try the Zemanta for Gmail extension: not only does it insert images but it looks for the relevant ones as you write. Been using it for Posterous during the last months, and it worked great!

This was such an awesome enhancement for both Gmail and, in turn, Posterous. It's so great to see you almost immediately supported it, and I started using it without even thinking about it. ;)

Nope, unfortunately Gmail's inline image feature just kind of sucks. We've complained to them, and if you can too, perhaps they will fix it. =)

Sooo, if the gmail inline doesn't work (because of Gmail), how can I stick a photo in the body of the post after the fact? Do I have to upload the photo to my own domain name and serve it from there? By the way, loving the gallery via zip feature. AMAZING!
