nice!
what domain should I add in analytics? my custom domain (post.marcof.net) or the posterous subdomain marcof.posterous.net??

Sachin Agarwal said...
Marco, you should use your custom domain. Thanks

Ah, never mind.. I opted for the former, and it works.
HOWEVER, why is there two entries in the site? I see one that I've added myself.. Is the other yours? (I guess you'd like to track all posterous access, so it sounds logical)

anyway, thanks a bunch!

Great Sachin, I found out that it doesn't work with custom domain but you have to enter Analytics the http://name.posterous.com.

Bye from Italy!

Hey Andrea. Thanks for the info. I'll look into this some more. When you entered the custom domain, were you not seeing any results? Sometimes google analytics takes a while to update.

Andrea Contino said...
Well, I've just changed it into www.westside.fm. It still returns me "waiting for data". I'll let you know if something will go wrong or will be ok.
Just to clarify, when I first put my custom domain it returns me error, while I've changed with name.posterous.com it started to receive data.
Let's give Analytics another chance and I'll update you :)

Hey Sachin, when you say a while, approximately how long should I wait before I know this isn't working?

p.s. - I use a custom domain.

awesome stuff. as I was commenting on a photo that was crossposted to twitter, it occured to me that posting the comment to twitter with a link back to the original photo would make posterous work like twitpic.

posterous rocks!

Finally, I guess you had tons of mails about this.
Thanks.

Is there a place on Posterous, where users can vote for features? A Poll?

I know ur thinking 'we want to keep it simple without adding clutter'... but still?

There's a 'Send feedback' labeled link on the main page, you can use that. I've written to the team some mails, and they've answered, all the time. Very positive! :)

A pal showed me this and I was fascinated to see what I have been trying to get a website designer to do for me for a long time and he just could not realise what I wanted. I work a lot with young people in the field of creative education and wants to get them to work with me on projects after I have demonstrated my stories to them. Because of the difficulties with the internet and young people, I need to establish the type of site where they and their tutors can send me their work and I can respond to them.

With that in mind what safeguards will you build in to your system to have the security and safeguard.

It would be best if one of you guys can speak with me about ,my concerns, please let me have a contact number to call.

Excellent!!

Google Analytics would help all of us know our traffic sources.

I've always wondered if my blog got any search engine traffic. Guess the mystery would be solved now :D

Observations for discussion The site you are developing has numerous advantages, but I will not convey them to you in an ordinary Blog, it will be useful to many of us who are looking for ways to make contact and to market ideas.

Way too cool. You have tapped into just about every need that a blogger could have. Now my analytical appetite can be satiated. I've used Google's tools on other Wordpress blogs, so this is a VERY welcome addition.

Thanks boys and girls...

Thanks, this is a huge plus for me, and I'm sure many others. Any chance of getting feedburner integration too?

It seems that the numbers on Posterous (views) are much higher than what I see in Google Analytics. I am measuring posts that were created long after GA was installed and confirmed to be working. For instance this post: http://internetbarf.posterous.com/where-did-the-term-spam-come-f shows viewed 234 times today but GA only reports 17 page views. I have GA installed and working on this Posterous blog since 01/26/2009. Anyone else seeing this same kind of discrepancy?

Foomandoonian said...
Brian, I'd be very interested in hearing more on that too.
They do say 'Note: page view numbers from Google Analytics may not match those shown on your Posterous manage page. Posterous counts post views from subscriptions and your RSS feed which Google will not.', which seems reasonable, but a little vague. I'm sure the figure is honest, but it probably doesn't reflect true views of your content.

Matt Hoult said...
@foomandoonian Do you know of a way then which I can check how many people are polling my RSS feed daily? I gave an example here of how it seems like a very large difference.
Feb 22, 2009
Foomandoonian said...
Not really Matt. I'd like to see FeedBurner integration sometime soon, but short of that, I have no idea.

My *theory* is that most posts get some exposure on http://posterous.com/explore - ana maybe a few other places - which would give you a boost in hits that Analytics wouldn't see.

(Also, Posterous needs a five minute window to let you edit comments)

Seems like theres a big discrepancy between my posterous stats and my google analytics stats? Any ideas?
Feb 27, 2009
Sachin Agarwal said...
First of all, when people read your posts through the Posterous reader (like I do) that counts as a view for that post on Posterous. But that would not hit google analytics. Same for RSS feeds.
If people hit your site and have javascript disabled, that would still count as a view on Posterous, but would be ignored by Google analytics
If I go to the main page for your site that will count as a post view for *each* of the posts on that page. Google would count that as one view for that page, and no views for each post.
So the fundamental difference here is google analytics is counting when that particular page is loaded with javascript, while we count anytime that *post* is loaded, on any page anywhere.
